Playing This Game Is Punishable By Death

Excerpt from a well-written post on the subject: "The title of this post does not fully capture the reality of the situation—at least, not yet. While it might seem unusual for a subreddit dedicated to hentai to engage in political discourse, the stakes of this upcoming election make it impossible to ignore. The 2024 US election could lead to policies that make illegal both the creation and sharing of pornography, a concern that must be at the forefront of our conversation. Central to this threat is Project 2025, a political agenda which proposes a policy blueprint that is poised to become a reality under any future Conservative Republican presidency. In light of this, it would be irresponsible to ignore the political ramifications that could alter the protections afforded to pornographic content. "

The following post fully explains the situation in detail, but I'll summarize it for you. Possessing, creating or partaking in pornography, of any kind would become a federal crime, punishable by the death penalty for those found guilty in extreme circumstances. That's just one of many of *your* rights on the chopping block this election if you live in the U.S..  I recommend that you read the post in its entirety if you want to learn more.

My Personal Thoughts:

I want to provide a place of refuge from all of the *shit* that we have to deal with in life.   I leave a piece of me in my work each and every time in the pursuit of that.

I make games to entertain you, if only for a few moments - so that you don't need to think about the harsh realities of life that we all face. That is what fantasy means to me. This project and all others in the adult/porn genre are in *real* peril.

The silence from my peers is telling. It's truly a case of "the leopard eating one's face." They spend a lot of time leaving comments or harassing me, but it seems that when it's time to talk about real subjects that affect the lives of others - they are strangely quiet.

According to polls there's a 46% chance that *this* project, and thousands of others will be gone next year through no fault of mine or like developers. So why aren't more people talking about this?

Good question. I was silenced each time when I tried to bring up the subject with them on two separate occasions. Maybe you, their supporters, should ask them about this. As for me, I believe in informed choice and knowing what you're voting for - whatever choice you make.  Choices matter, make yours count.

Edit: I've had a few developers respond to this and their general consensus is not to take it seriously - despite real-world applications of these laws in the past 6 months that directly affect them.

For example, (as the linked post states) 64% of project 2025 was already put into place last election. It's the reason that sites like PornHub aren't accessible in certain states.

It's the reason that credit card companies, GumRoad, Tumblr and Patreon have been aggressively changing their policies towards adult content (and don't seem to be stopping). All of their changes require content creators to verify themselves so that they can be tracked and directly pursued - if need be. This is not a coincidence nor a mistake - it's in accordance with the laws of Project 2025 that have already been enacted.

Sadly their reaction is also the first stage of grief, denial:

Since we are fked, here's what it means for your games based on the research AI has done for me:

Challenges to Implementing a Porn Ban:

  • First Amendment Protections: Pornography is protected by the First Amendment unless it meets the legal definition of obscenity, which is difficult to prove under current U.S. law. Any attempt to ban or severely restrict pornography would likely face significant legal challenges1 3 .
  • Public Opinion: While some conservative voters support stricter regulations on pornography, polling shows mixed views among Americans. Younger generations and liberals tend to view pornography as more acceptable than older or more conservative groups1 .

ha ha. I don't feel particularly fucked.
Actually, I'm fired up this morning.

Also, there are many laws that get broken in the US everyday. It's foolish to believe that laws will protect you, when in reality laws have always only protected a very small amount of the population.

Either way, I'm not too concerned. What will be, will be.

What I've learned from 2016 is that you can't trust the polls. What matters is that people go out and vote, especially if you live in a swing state.

Luckily there are ads being played on adult sites mentioning the ban of adult content in swing states.

But what matters is getting the message out and making sure that people vote instead of ignoring it and doing nothing.

The politician who will allegedly enact this plan has already disavowed it. He was never involved ever.

(1 edit) (+2)(-2)

The same politician (who is a pathological liar) and has already enacted over 50% of those plans in their last election said they wouldn't do it again?

Guess that means we're safe - right?

The fuck going with my country? Never herd that at all.

(+1)(-1)

As the post says, 64% of the plans have already been enacted in the last election.

They already started.
