Heavenly Peaks (1) - Understanding Ranks

The next few devlogs will be focused on helping players understand what they can expect from Heavenly Peaks. (Aside from making your big little brother rise) -- yes, there's actual depth to the game!

The first aspect of the project we are going to delve into is the ranking of the world.

There are three known realms in the world of Heavenly Peaks.

  • Spark - This is the beginner's realm, where most people remain for a good deal of their natural life. It is considered the stage when the spirit begins to spark up and flare -- hence Spark.
  • Spirit - The realm that only the talented reach.
  • Soul - A fabled realm that few ever reach, even the most talented amongst cultivators.

Digging a little deeper --there are 5 Ranks within each Realm and each Rank is governed by a title:

  • Crimson - The lowest rank within any realm.
  • Emerald - A step higher.
  • Azure - Considered the middle of any realm.
  • Amber - One step short of a realm's pinnacle.
  • Obsidian - The peak of any realm.

Once a cultivator reaches Obsidian rank in a single realm they can then try to break through to the next. For example an Obsidian Spark would, after breaking through, become a Crimson Spirit.

Put in a more simple manner --Crimson Spark would be 1st level, while Obsidian Spirit would be 10th level.

In theory the strongest level would be Obsidian Soul (15th level) though no one in recorded history has ever been known to reach this. In fact, there is no one in recorded history who has ever crossed over into the Soul Realm itself.

Within each of the ranks there is a second, more accurate measure of strength called Seed. There are 10 Seeds total within a rank and they are grouped as follows:

  • Lesser Seed - 1-3. Those who are said to be within the first 3 seeds of a rank are called Lesser Seeds.
  • Grand Seed - 4-6. The 4-6 seeds in a rank can be considered the middle of a rank.
  • High Seed - 7-9. 7-9 are considered powerful within any rank.
  • Supreme Seed - 10. This is the highest any rank can obtain before moving onto the next. For example, once you reach Crimson Spark : Supreme Seed you would be able to breakthrough to Emerald Spark : Lesser Seed.

Seeds are slightly more complex to understand, and are based on how much of one's current talent limit has been used.

Talent limit is responsible for how much a person can grow between the ranks and break throughs. If, for example a person had only 10 talent limit points and they used 5 of those, they would be considered Grand Seed 5.

As another example, if a person had 100 talent limit and used 20 of them, they would be considered Lesser Seed 2. In other words, the more one's talent limit increases the more they can raise their stats.

Because of this, the higher one rises in the ranks the more differences there are in strength between Lesser and Supreme Seeds. Thus, it would be more difficult for a Lesser Seed to defeat a Grand seed in the Spirit Realm even IF they are the same rank.

For this same reason it would be nearly impossible for a Lesser Seed to twin against a Grand or High rank if both were in the Soul Realm. It would also be completely impossible for someone of a lesser Realm to contend with someone of a Higher realm.
